Ilandra Valencia

Livingston FFA

Senior at Livingston High School

Ilandra is a Livingston FFA student and a senior at Livingston High School. Here's what she has to say about her project, and why she became involved in FFA.

“My SAE project is raising a market hog for the fair. I received my pig from the Modesto Junior College. She is a dark-cross with a sassy attitude. I have been in charge of cleaning and feeding her daily since February. Since then, I have been working with her daily by first getting her comfortable with me, then walking her. Although at first it was a bit difficult getting the hang of it, I now look forward to working with her every day. My project has not only taught me how to care for another animal but it has also shown me a different sector with the agriculture industry. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to raise a market hog for the fair, and I will cherish the days with her leading to fair.

I got involved in FFA because I noticed all the different opportunities there was, from showing an animal, to being on a CDE/LDE team, I knew if I got involved, it would greatly help me grow not only as a leader but as an individual as well.

FFA is important to me because it has prepared well for my future through the opportunities given to me. It has show me my passion of working with animals. Most importantly though, it has opened new doors for me and my future involvement within the animal industry."
